The Ultimate Enemy is rather important to theas it was in fact the first video game to use it.
Developed by frequent Nickolodeon collaborators Altron, the game told the story of Dan Nickelodeon danny phantom games debating whether or not to cheat on a career aptitude test. The plot obviously has more ins and outs than just a moral choice. Glimpsing into the future, Danny Phantom has become evil, and must be stopped at all costs. You move the titular character from left to right, defeating all of the enemies in a set area before moving further to the right. It looks the part, but just fails to feel up to the mark. The ghostly enemies are reasonably varied, there are three or four main types of apparition that Danny will take on throughout the game.
Larger enemies stick to the ground, but others fly at a jump height above the player. As soon as you start to gain momentum and begin to enjoy yourself the mission ends, leading you to dialogue sections that completely remove you from the action and detract from your immersion.
The Ultimate Enemy feels like more of a cheaply-made cash grab than a real thought-out video game. Individual levels are too short and boss battles are uninspired and boring. Even for fans of the series, there is nothing here to make playing the game worthwhile. I really like the Danny Phantom TV series and this game was actually the first video game to feature Danny Phantom to be released. It is also one of the better ones and it is a game that I really do feel is best described as a hidden gem for the GBA.
If you know the TV series then the story of the game is going to really make you smile. The story being told in Danny Phantom: The Ultimate Enemy is actually based on a popular episode from season 2 of the show. The basics are that in the future, Danny has turned evil and Clockwork decides that going back in time to stop Danny becoming evil is the way to go.
It is a fun story that is told through some text bubbles and it does follow the TV show very well. If you are a fan of the show you will get a kick out of it. Also, if you are not a diehard fan of the show the game more than fills you in on what was happening. The visuals may not be the best that the system has to offer, but the game is still very easy on the eyes. There are a ton of games based on Nick properties on the GBA and they all manage to capture the look of their shows quite well.
That is certainly the case here, Danny and the rest of the cast all look great and faithful to their TV counterparts. The backgrounds at first glance have a rather low detail kind of style to them, but I think they really do make the game pop. It fits the game perfectly and they even managed to get the theme song from the show here.
As you have probably guessed, the game is a side-scrolling action game. If you watch a video of the gameplay, I know it may look basic, but this is a ton of fun. It is very combat-focused and the game does a great job of giving you new abilities as you level up. These along with the new items you pick up along the way help keep the combat fresh and fun.
I will say that the game is rather short, but in a positive way, this means that the game does not overstay its welcome which I liked. I do think if you like the show you will get more out of it. However, I do feel that no matter what this is a solid side scroller. As someone who likes the show, Nickelodeon danny phantom games do think that Danny Phantom: The Ultimate Enemy is a game that is far better than many people would think. While it would be easy for me to say this is great for a d game, that is actually doing it a disservice as this is a fun game in its own right.
If you like bit style side scrollers you are going to have a fun time with this one, even if it is a bit short. Browse games Game Portals. Danny Phantom: The Ultimate Enemy.
